Halifax is the capital of the beautiful province of Nova Scotia. It’s a charming waterfront city with an amazing boardwalk along the water, a great downtown area, tons of wonderful restaurants, and so much more. Halifax is a city you must visit when exploring Eastern Canada. I hope you enjoy my guide to Halifax, Nova Scotia!
WHAT TO DO
Waterfront Boardwalk
The number one thing to do in Halifax is to walk the waterfront boardwalk. You will see so much along the boardwalk. There are so many great restaurants and food stands, cute seating areas, and picturesque views. You can also take the ferry or a boat ride from here.
Halifax Public Gardens
After you’ve walked the boardwalk, take Spring Garden Road up to the Halifax Public Gardens. You’ll pass by Dalhousie University, restaurants, and stores. I’m so glad that we visited the beautiful Halifax Public Gardens. These Victorian gardens were created in the 1800s and they are stunning.
Downtown
Make sure you explore more of Halifax’s downtown area. You will see charming streets, interesting buildings, and historical sites, such as the Old Burying Grounds, the Old Town Clock, and the Grand Parade.
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
A popular attraction in Halifax is the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. Tours are available for this hilltop military fort.
WHERE TO EAT
We had an excellent lunch at Salty’s – the lobster roll is delicious! Black Sheep Restaurant is a nice lunch or dinner spot. Dining at The Bicycle Thief is a must if you can – we had an excellent dinner there. Some other restaurants that I heard good things about are The Brooklyn Warehouse, The Press Gang, Edna, and DeeDee’s Ice Cream. There are so many restaurants in Halifax to choose from!
WHERE TO STAY
We stayed at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Halifax Downtown. This is a great budget option, although it is a short walk to downtown Halifax. A decent breakfast is included and the suites come with a kitchen, which is so convenient.
