Must-See Attractions in the Allegheny National Forest

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are quite a few attractions/viewpoints to visit in the Allegheny National Forest. What’s even better is that they are all located close together! I was unsure what to expect but ended up loving each of these must-see attractions on my hiking trip in Allegheny National Forest.

Hector Falls

Visiting Hector Falls was the first thing that we did on our trip to the Allegheny National Forest. It’s close to Morrison Trail. The short hike to the waterfall was beautiful. Although Hector Falls is quite small, it is very unique and peaceful.

Rimrock Overlook

Visiting Rimrock Overlook was our absolute favourite part of the trip. It is just a short drive west from one of the Minister Creek Trail parking lots. You CANNOT miss this viewpoint overlooking the Allegheny Reservoir. Although it was very busy, there was still room to take pictures and enjoy the incredible view. I am so glad that we saw it in the fall!

Kinzua Beach

Further west at the base of the Allegheny Reservoir is Kinzua Beach. There is an option to hike from Rimrock Overlook to Kinzua Beach but I was told that it is quite a difficult hike. Kinzua Beach is not much of an actual beach, in fact most of it is a concrete slab, but the view of the reservoir, the forest, and the Kinzua Beach Bridge is awesome.

Jakes Rock Overlook

Just after the Kinzua Beach Bridge, make a left and head to Jakes Rock Overlook. This is another beautiful viewpoint but nothing compared to Rimrock Overlook.

Kinzua Point

Just after the Kinzua Beach Bridge on the right-hand side is Kinzua Point, another great view of the Allegheny Reservoir.

Bent Run Waterfall

Slightly further west is Bent Run Waterfall. No hike needed to reach this waterfall! You can make your way to the bottom of the waterfall for the best view, but it is quite steep and slippery.

Kinzua Dam

A little further west will bring you to the Kinzua Dam viewpoint on the Allegheny River. The Kinzua Dam is one of the largest dams in the United States and it created the Allegheny Reservoir. It was pretty cool to see this powerful dam!
