If you are looking to explore a part of the idyllic, charming English countryside, the Cotswolds is the perfect place to do so. The Cotswolds is an area just west of London comprised of several small towns and villages with beautiful stone-built historic homes, and cute thatched-roof cottages. You can easily make a day trip to the Cotswolds from London.
When planning my second visit to London, I knew that I wanted to take a day trip to the Cotswolds. Since the area is very large and we would not have a rental car, I figured it would be easier to book a tour. I came across a tour of the Cotswolds called the Secret Cottage Cotswolds Tour. After reading the rave-reviews, my two best friends and I decided to book three spots on the tour.
Getting to the Cotswolds
The Secret Cottage tour guide will pick you up at Moreton-in-Marsh train station in a 7-seater Mercedes minibus at 10:00 am. In order to make it there for 10:00 am, you will have to take the 8:21 am train from London-Paddington station.
The tour guide will drop you back off at Moreton-in-Marsh station at 4:30 pm to catch the 4:46 pm train back to London-Paddington. The train will arrive back in London at 6:28 pm.
NOTE: Train times differ slightly on weekends.
Cotswolds Secret Cottage Tour
Once the minibus has picked you up from the train station, you will make your way to the Secret Cottage. This adorable thatched-roof home belongs to the tour operator, Becky, and her family.
You will hardly believe your eyes when you step into the cottage and a spread of breakfast pastries awaits you. After chatting, eating, and checking out the cottage, you’ll climb back into the minibus and set off to visit a few of the villages.
You’ll return to Secret Cottage for a lovely lunch. We enjoyed ours in the garden! Then it’s back into the van to see another few charming towns.
Just when you think you can’t possibly eat anything else, you’ll return back to Secret Cottage for a traditional English afternoon high tea and you won’t be able to pass it up. Delicious!
Cotswolds Towns and Villages
There are so many cute Cotswold villages to visit. The Secret Cottage Tour focuses on taking you to villages that are “hidden gems” and less touristy – so nice!
