A Guide to Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake

My absolute favourite thing to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario is to simply walk along Queen Street in the downtown area. Queen Street is by far one of my favourite streets in Ontario – it is so picturesque. The street is full of flowers, historic buildings, cute shops, and restaurants – you won’t know where to look! If you are ever in Niagara-on-the-Lake, strolling along Queen Street is a must. I hope you enjoy this guide to Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

WHAT TO DO

The Charles Hotel

Start your walk along Queen Street at The Charles Hotel. I love the look of this hotel – it looks like it belongs in southern USA. Make sure you check out their beautiful garden in the back, it’s one of my favourite places to take photos.

Shopping

As you continue walking along this beautiful street you’ll find tons of great shops to step in and take a look around. This is my favourite thing to do as I admire all the planted flowers that line the street.

Prince of Wales Hotel

Once you pass all the shops, you’ll find the amazing Victorian-era Prince of Wales Hotel. Built in 1864, this hotel is iconic in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is such a beautiful hotel – I hope to stay there someday!

Historic Homes

Another fun thing to do is to explore the side streets and admire all of the beautiful historic homes. Some of them have plaques explaining the history of the house.

Ghost Tour

I love scary movies and spooky things so of course I had to try the Ghost Tour of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The tour begins on Queen Street and you’ll hear the ghost stories of the street’s iconic haunted establishments, such as the Olde Angel Inn, Courthouse, Prince of Wales Hotel, Niagara Apothecary, and Royal George Theatre. I highly recommend it!

WHERE TO STAY

I usually take day trips to Niagara-on-the-Lake since it is close to where I live but I recently took an overnight trip and stayed at the Queen Regent Bed and Breakfast, right off of Queen Street. It is such a charming bed and breakfast, I had a great stay. More information: https://www.queenregentbb.com/

If you’d rather stay in a hotel, some popular (but pricey) options on Queen Street are the Prince of Wales Hotel, The Charles Hotel, Queen’s Landing Hotel, and 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa

WHERE TO EAT

My favourite restaurants on Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake are The Irish Harp Pub, Masaki Sushi, and Zee’s Grill. Some other good and affordable options are Pieza Pizzeria, Stage Coach Family Restaurant, and Niagara’s Finest Thai. For fine dining, Treadwell Cuisine is very popular. A fun spot to check out is Exchange Brewery for beers and snacks – they have a great rooftop patio.

For a sweet treat, check out Il Gelato di Carlotta, Nina Gelateria or COWS
