A Complete Guide to Rome, Italy

Rome is one of my favourite cities in the world. When I first visited in 2012, I fell in love with its history and charm. On my second trip 10 years later, I fell in love all over again. I highly recommend that visiting Rome is on your bucket list and if it is, I have recommendations for what to do, where to stay and where to eat in this beautiful, historic city. I hope you enjoy my complete guide to Rome, Italy!

WHAT TO DO

There is truly so much to see and do in Rome. On my first trip there, I visited all the main tourist attractions and did the tours. On my second trip, I simply walked around the city, admired the scenery and found hidden gems. If you are planning to take tours at the main tourist attractions, I highly suggest that you book in advance. My favourite things to do in Rome are:

  • Walk around the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps
  • Visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum
  • Enjoy the amazing view at the Altare della Patria panoramic terrace
  • Rent bikes in Villa Borghese and head to the Terrazza del Pincio
  • Walk around the Piazza Navona and Pantheon at night

WHERE TO STAY

On my most recent trip to Rome, we stayed at Albergo Santa Chiara and loved it. Our room was very basic but the location was amazing and the breakfast was great. The hotel is literally around the corner from the Pantheon, which is a very central location to all of Rome’s sites. I highly recommend staying here or in the same area when visiting Rome!

WHERE TO EAT

I truly mean this when I say you cannot have a bad meal in Rome. The food is incredible everywhere you go! Trying the truffle pasta at Osteria Barberini, near the Spanish Steps, is a must – make a reservation if you can. Experience the “best carbonara in Rome” at In Roma, near the Roman Forum. Fortunata Pantheon is a great traditional Italian restaurant with a partial view of the Pantheon – get the fried zucchini flowers! Head to Bernini for less touristy dining in the lively Piazza Navona. For an amazing fine dining experience, we had an unforgettable meal with friends at Pierluigi. And of course, you can’t go wrong at any of the gelato spots around Rome!
